With "In Rock" or also "Deep Purple In Rock", the legendary British hard rock band released its fourth studio album a good 45 years ago. It is also the first album in the classic MK-II line-up, consisting of singer Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, Jon Lord on Hammond organ, Roger Glover on bass and Ian Paice on drums.
To this day, "In Rock" is considered one of the first heavy metal albums and groundbreaking for the stylistic development of Deep Purple. With it, the band solidified its typical sound, which was particularly characterized by Gillan's vocals and Blackmore's distinctive riff-heavy guitar playing.
It is also the album with which Deep Purple achieved the international breakthrough. In Germany, the record even landed at number 1 in the album charts.
The most famous singles were probably the Vietnam War criticizing "Child in Time" and the song "Speed King". Both are still considered today as trend-setting for later rock and metal
The cornerstone of heavy metal.
