Harry Chapin (1942-1981) was an American singer-songwriter, humanitarian and social activist best known for his hit songs "Taxi," "Cat's in the Cradle" and "W*O*L*D." He was one of the most successful songwriters of the 1970s, selling more than 16 million albums worldwide. His musical style was a mix of folk, rock, pop and jazz.

Some of Harry Chapin's most successful albums were Verities & Balderdash (1974), Greatest Stories Live (1976) and Dance Band on the Titanic (1977). His standout songs include "Taxi," "Cat's in the Cradle," "W*O*L*D," "Circles," "30,000 Pounds of Bananas" and "I Wanna Learn a Love Song."

An interesting fact about Harry Chapin is that he was an advocate for the hungry and worked with the presidential administrations of Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter to help find solutions for world hunger. He also founded the nonprofit organization World Hunger Year (now WhyHunger) in 1975 to raise awareness and fight hunger.
