  • For the follow-up to COWBOYS FROM HELL, Pantera set out to write the heaviest record ever, and with VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER, the Texan quartet has succeeded. The "Punch-in-the-Face" cover of the 1992 Atco album sets the tone for 11 hard-hitting original compositions, including "Mouth for War", "Walk" "Hollow" and "This Love". Phil Anselmo's deep, growling vocals sound like something out of "The Exorcist" (the album title is borrowed from the film), and "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's pounding riffs sound just as possessed. Abbott was born on this day in 1966, and we remember the late guitarist with the double-platinum album VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER - arguably Pantera's finest hour and certainly one of the most influential metal albums of the 1990s.

"A searing, all-crushing collection of brutal riffs, pulverising speed and hoarse, screamed vocals. 'Vulgar Display of Power' is the record that established Pantera as the most vicious and popular heavy metal band of the early '80s." (All Music Guide)
