Hoagy Carmichael (1899-1981) was an American singer, songwriter, actor, and pianist. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and was best known for his compositions "Stardust," "Georgia on My Mind," and "Heart and Soul."

Carmichael's first album, Hoagy Sings Carmichael (1944), featured his own compositions and arrangements of classic tunes. His other albums include Lazy Bones (1949), Hoagy Carmichael Sings and Plays (1956), The Great Hoagy Carmichael (1962), and The Hoagy Carmichael Songbook (1973).

Carmichael's most well-known songs include "Stardust," "Georgia on My Mind," "Rockin' Chair," "Up the Lazy River," "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening," and "The Nearness of You."

An interesting fact about Hoagy Carmichael is that he wrote the lyrics to "Stardust" in 1927, but it was not recorded until 1931. He went on to write and record many other songs and eventually received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
