J.J. Cale (John Weldon Cale) was an American singer-songwriter, musician, and producer. He is best known for his work in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly his albums and singles in the Tulsa Sound style. Cale was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1938 and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He started playing guitar and writing songs in the 1950s, and began recording his own music in the mid-1960s. He released his debut album, Naturally, in 1972, and it was a critical and commercial success.
Cale's best known songs include "Cocaine," "After Midnight," "Call Me the Breeze," and "Crazy Mama." His most popular albums include Naturally (1972), Troubadour (1976), 5 (1979), Shades (1981), and Travel-Log (1990). He was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2007.
An interesting fact about J.J. Cale is that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, becoming the first artist from Oklahoma to be inducted. He was posthumously honored for his work in influencing a wide range of artists, including Eric Clapton, Neil Young, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
