Jangle Pop
Jangle Pop is a musical style characterized by bright, often trebly guitar tones and a catchy, upbeat sound. The style originated in the mid-1980s, when a new wave of power-pop bands began to emerge, mixing elements of punk and classic rock with a more melodic, shimmering sound. Jangle Pop bands such as The Byrds, R.E.M., The Smiths, and The Go-Betweens became hugely influential on the alternative music scene, inspiring a new generation of artists and bands to explore the genre. The genre has remained popular, with acts such as The Strokes, Weezer, and The Shins continuing to draw inspiration from the classic jangle pop sound.
