Born in 1920, pianist Dave Brubeck is an American jazz legend. In the early 1950s, he founded the Dave Brubeck Quartet in California, with which he soon became an insider tip on the Sunshine State jazz scene. In 1961 Brubeck succeeded in reaching the heights of the pop charts with the piece "Take Five", composed by his saxophonist. The song, played in 5/4 time, was the first jazz record to sell more than a million records. "Take Five" came from the album "Time Out", already released in 1959, with which Brubeck presented one of the definitive milestones of jazz. The Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded this album in 1959 and Columbia Records was initially less than enthusiastic. Brubeck had ventured away from the classic 3/4 and 4/4 time and was actively trying new things. The result was enormously successful and, contrary to the opinion of the critics at the time, not a betrayal of Jazz. Or to put it flippantly: The album is really good, even though so many people like it. The Album also contains the famous piece Take Five by Paul Desmond.
