The Kingston Trio was an American folk and pop music group that was formed in 1957 in San Francisco, California. They were one of the most popular folk groups of the late 1950s and early 1960s, and their biggest hits included "Tom Dooley," "M.T.A.," and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone." The original trio consisted of Dave Guard, Bob Shane, and Nick Reynolds.
The group's first album, The Kingston Trio, was released in 1958 and was followed by a series of albums that sold over a million copies each. Their most successful album was the 1959 release Here We Go Again!, which included "Tom Dooley" and "M.T.A." Other popular albums include The Kingston Trio at Large (1959) and Goin' Places (1960).
The group's most popular songs also included "A Worried Man," "Bad Man's Blunder," "Greenback Dollar," "Scotch and Soda," "Reverend Mr. Black," and "This Land is Your Land."
An interesting fact about the Kingston Trio is that their music has been covered by a variety of other artists, including John Denver, Dolly Parton, and Peter, Paul, and Mary.
