Lee Konitz is an American jazz saxophonist and composer who has had a long and varied career. He is best known for his involvement in the cool jazz movement of the late 1940s and early 1950s, as well as his work in free jazz and avant-garde jazz. Konitz is considered one of the most influential alto saxophonists in jazz, and he is credited with inspiring a new wave of saxophonists, including Phil Woods and Sonny Rollins.
Konitz's most popular albums include "Motion" (1955), "The Lee Konitz Duets" (1957), "Lee Konitz Meets Jimmy Giuffre" (1959), "Motion" (1959), "Subconscious-Lee" (1961), "The Real Lee Konitz" (1965), and "Motion" (1966). An interesting fact about Lee Konitz is that he was the first jazz musician to be featured on the cover of DownBeat magazine in 1953.
