Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer-songwriter and poet who was widely renowned for his insightful, emotionally honest and often darkly humorous lyrical content. He began his career as a poet, publishing several books of poetry before embarking on a musical career in 1967. His debut album, Songs of Leonard Cohen, was released in 1968 and featured the hit singles “Suzanne” and “So Long, Marianne”. Other standout albums include Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971), New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1974), Death of a Ladies’ Man (1977), Various Positions (1984), I’m Your Man (1988) and The Future (1992). He also released the posthumous album You Want It Darker in 2016. Some of his most popular songs include “Hallelujah”, “Dance Me to the End of Love”, “Bird on a Wire”, “Famous Blue Raincoat” and “Ain’t No Cure for Love”.

An interesting fact about Leonard Cohen is that he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, making him the first Canadian singer-songwriter to receive the honour.
