Mary Hopkin
Mary Hopkin is a Welsh singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1960s. She is best known for her 1968 debut single "Those Were the Days", which reached number one in the UK and number two in the US. Hopkin was one of the first artists to be signed to the Beatles' Apple label.
Hopkin's most successful album was her 1970 release, Postcard, which peaked at number three in the UK and contained her two top 10 singles "Goodbye" and "Temma Harbour". Her 1972 album Earth Song/Ocean Song contained the single "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)", which became her second UK number one.
Other standout albums include Mary Hopkin (1969), Earth Song (1973) and Mary Hopkin's Collection (1977). Her songs "Those Were the Days", "Goodbye", "Temma Harbour" and "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" have all become classics.
An interesting fact about Mary Hopkin is that she was the first artist to have a song written and produced by Paul McCartney released as a single.
