Max Steiner was an Austrian-American composer who composed some of the most memorable music of the 20th century. He is best known for his iconic film scores, particularly those for the classic Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s, such as King Kong (1933), Gone With the Wind (1939), Casablanca (1942), The Big Sleep (1946) and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948). Steiner's other notable works include the scores for Now, Voyager (1942), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936) and The Informer (1935).
Steiner's most acclaimed and memorable albums include The King Kong Suite (1933), Gone With the Wind (1939), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936) and Now, Voyager (1942). His most popular songs include "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca (1942), "The Tennessee Waltz" from Now, Voyager (1942) and "The Big Sleep" from The Big Sleep (1946).
An interesting fact about Max Steiner is that he is considered one of the founding fathers of film music. He pioneered the use of a symphonic orchestra to score films and developed the concept of leitmotifs (themes associated with characters or events that are repeated throughout a film). He is also credited with popularizing the use of music to enhance the emotional impact of films.
