Mdou Moctar is a Tuareg guitarist, singer and songwriter from Agadez, Niger. He was born in the 1980s and grew up in a small village in the desert. He began playing music at the age of 13, learning traditional Tuareg music from his uncle. He soon developed a passion for the electric guitar, which he taught himself to play. Mdou Moctar is best known for his album Afelan, which was released in 2016. The album featured a mix of traditional Tuareg music and psychedelic rock, and earned him international attention. His subsequent albums Ilana: The Creator (2018) and Afrique Victime (2020) also featured a mix of traditional and modern styles. Mdou Moctar has also released several singles, such as "Tahoultine" (2015), "Tala Tannam" (2018) and "Tarhatazed" (2019). He is also known for his cover of Prince's song "Purple Rain", which he released in 2019. An interesting fact about Mdou Moctar is that he was featured in a documentary about his life and music, titled Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai (2015). The film follows him on his journey to becoming a successful musician and helped to launch his career.
