Mort Garson (1924 - 2008) was a Canadian-born composer, arranger, and producer who was one of the pioneers of electronic music. He is best known for his collaborations with the early synth pioneers and for his ground-breaking work in the 1960s and 70s. He is most widely remembered for his 1967 album, Mother Earth's Plantasia, which he wrote and produced for the Moog Synthesizer.

Garson began his career in the late 1940s as an arranger and composer in the film and television industry. He composed music for several television series, including The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, as well as the 1968 cult classic horror film, The Wicker Man. He also wrote the score for the classic 1968 sci-fi film, Barbarella.

In the early 1970s, Garson released several solo albums, including The Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds (1967), The Wozard of Iz (1968), and Music from Patch Cord Productions (1970). These albums featured experimental electronic compositions and are considered to be some of the first synth-pop albums.

Garson's most well-known and celebrated album is Mother Earth's Plantasia, which was released in 1976. This album is an instrumental work featuring synthesized music meant to be played for plants. Plantasia has since become a cult classic and is seen as an early example of ambient music.

An interesting fact about Mort Garson is that he wrote the theme song for the classic 60s sitcom, Green Acres. He also composed and arranged music for many other television shows, including the original theme song for the educational cartoon series, Schoolhouse Rock!
