  • Iggy Pop is back in 2016 with a new album. This is the incredible 17th studio album of the punk legend. For "Post Pop Depression" Pop got the support of some top-class musician colleagues.

It all started with a text message to Josh Homme. The singer, drummer and guitarist, who as founder of Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal and Them Crooked Vultures has long been one of the legends of his genre, immediately agreed. He took over the activities of co-writer, guitarist and producer.

Pop and Homme enlisted the help of fellow musician and multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) for additional guitar and keyboard contributions. Matt Helders from the Arctic Monkeys was on drums for "Post Pop Depression".

The musicians had already begun songwriting for their new album at the beginning of 2015, recording it in Homme's home studio in Joshua Tree as well as in his studio in Burbank, California within three weeks.

A total of nine songs have come out of it and they sound - how could it be otherwise - like a successful mixture of early Iggy Pop and QOTSA. "Post Pop Depression" goes in the direction of Iggy's first solo albums "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life", which he produced together with David Bowie in Berlin in 1977.

So are the first singles "Gardenia" and "Break Into Your Heart." Both presented Pop and Homme already in January 2016 to the public. With "German Days" there is even a song on the album that also reminds you of this time in terms of content.

What else is there to say? This album is the result of the collaboration of legends and masters of their craft. "Post Pop Depression" sets damn high standards for rock albums in 2016.
