Gary Burton is not only known as one of the great innovators of the vibraphone, he has also repeatedly distinguished himself as a skilled talent scout. in 1973, on The New Quartet, he first introduced Abraham Laboriel, who would soon become one of the most sought-after bassists and session musicians across genres. "Laboriel is attracting attention with amazing bass work and could become one of the greats of his craft," wrote Melody Maker. For guitarist Mick Goodrick, too, this album of compositions by Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Carla Bley, Mike Gibbs and bandleader Burton was his first step into the limelight.
Luminessence, ECM's new audiophile vinyl reissue series, is a kaleidoscope that illuminates the jewels of the label's extensive catalog in elegant, high-quality editions. The hallmark of the series: original and atmospheric music, imaginatively played and sensitively produced. The recordings underscore the scope and diversity of ECM's sound world, and the LPs are presented in a variety of formats.
