The album "Wede Harer Guzo" by Hailu Mergia & Dahlak Band is the Ethiopian keyboard and accordion master's third release on Awesome Tapes From Africa. Since the release of "Shemonmuanaye", Mercia's tour schedule has been on the upswing: he played festivals and clubs around the world and supported Beirut on their last tour. In Addis Ababa's Ghion Hotel in 1978 Mergia met the Dahlak Band, which was the house band there at that time .Together they recorded the tape "Wede Harer Guzo" at the club there within three days during the band's afternoon rehearsals. The Dahlak Band served a slightly younger, local audience, while Mercia's main engagement with the Walias was in the finest hotel in Addis, where they played in front of a mixed audience of rich Ethiopians, foreign diplomats and more sedate people .Mergia published "Wede Harer Guzo" ("Journey to Harer", an East Ethiopian town) at that time together with the Sheba Music Shop. His copy of the cassette was the only source Awesome Tapes From Africa could find. The songs were reworked by Jessica Thompson at Coast Mastering and freed from the hissing and crackling that could be heard on cassette through the years of storage.
