  • In 1965, John Coltrane released his album "A Love Supreme." The jazz saxophonist's most famous and successful studio album in the form of a suite is one of the most important albums in jazz today.

Coltrane called "A Love Supreme" a "humble offering to the divine." No other composition or recording was performed in a similar manner. "A Love Supreme" was both an individual testament and a public statement, a sermon of universalist faith.

With "A Love Supreme: Live In Seattle" there is now for the first time another complete live version of the suite, which was recorded in Seattle in October 1965. This is a rare private recording. The set was recorded in 1965 by John Coltrane and Joe Brazil on the last night of Coltrane's week-long residency at "The Penthouse" jazz club in Seattle. The performance took place with the sextet, which consisted of the "classic quartet" with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones, Pharoah Sanders (saxophone) and Donald Garrett (bass) and was partly extended by Carlos Ward (saxophone) .
