Spaces – Nils Frahm (2xLP)

With his uniquely intimate piano recordings, Berlin-based pianist Nils Frahm became a star of the international neo-classical scene. Yet his studio recordings are only a fraction of what can be expected at a Nils Frahm concert. Frahm's heart lies in improvisation, in the magic of the moment when his fingers, inspired by the room and the audience, create new compositions.

"Spaces" is an ode to the pleasure of live playing, an expression of the joy of experimentation and at the same time an answer to his fans' question for a record that reflects the experience of a Nils Fram concert.

Contrary to the conventions of a traditional live album, "Spaces" was recorded over a period of two years using portable tape recorders and cassette decks at various locations. These moments were later put together in his Berlin studio to form a kind of collage of field recordings. Sometimes with surprising moments like string hammering toilet brushes or a cough from the audience.
