"Arriving in the studio to record Budos II, I really thought we were going to make the first psychedelic Doom Rock record ever recorded on Daptone, but somehow it ended up sounding like a Budos recording," says long-time frontman and baritone saxophonist Jared Tankel. Like its predecessors, "Budos III" was recorded live, analogue and in a period of 48 intense hours at the newly infamous Daptone House of Soul studios and produced by the world-renowned production team Bosco Mann and TNT. The results are unmistakable songs. Hard walls of sound, which earned the Budos Band the title "The quintessence of Staten Island Soul", richly endowed with tight rhythms, murderous breakbeats and blaring horns - yes, maybe with a touch of psychedelic doom rock - promise to heat up the summer like hell. Written, composed, arranged and honed during a beer-fired session in Staten Island, and with the experience of more than 150 live gigs over the last two years in the bag, this third studio album shows the close ties between the creative union of Budos. With a total of 30,000 albums sold and extensive club tours and appearances at major festivals in the US, Canada and Europe, they now have a wild fan base of different genres and ages behind them. To describe the sound of the Budos may be a challenge for some. The band of the "Staten Island Instrumental Afro-Soul" combines apparently contradictory influences such as the Cairo Jazz Band, JC Davis, Mulatu Astatke and Black Sabbath. A connection to achieve a mind-altering combination of rhythm and melody.
