New Wave Vinyl Records

A form of punk music, but more subtle and intelligent. The angry, socially conscious lyrics have remained, only the music has become more melodic. Popular since about 1976. Doom music can also be counted as part of the new wave. There was already a New Wave in jazz, and a movement in French cinema had the same name: nouvelle vague.

New Wave is a name for a type of music that emerged at the same time as punk and disco. It is difficult to give a precise description of this pop music because it is a collective category for all pop that was new at the end of the 1970s, but was not made for the highly commercial top-forty circuit. Like punk, new wave sought inspiration from early rock 'n roll, but it lacked the musical and textual aggressive simplism of punk. The American counterpart of the British rock violence is more hedonistic and intellectualistic (Ramones): 'new wave' is called the music that, even after the integration of punk, allows a redefinition of the rock avant-garde.
