The second Cars album from 1979 followed exactly the well-known style of the first. Pop rhythms and biting lyrics made this one of the most successful new wave albums and after only a few weeks the platinum status of the LP was reached. The title was the abbreviation for Candy-Obnoxious and the lyrics of women and couples act accordingly. Although they seem wonderfully desirable, they can't save this appearance into daylightCandy-O's cover picture appears again and again in the lists of the most famous record covers and comes from the illustrator Alberto Vargas. Vargas became famous through his work for men's magazines and drummer David Robinson was a big fan of these pictures. Vargas after the job also started at the age of 80 at the request of his niece, a Cars fan, and worked with a photograph that Robinson had taken at a Ferrari dealer in Beverly Hills. The lady in the photo was actually called Candy Moore and had been sent by the record company.
