Ornette Coleman was an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1930 and died in 2015. He is considered one of the most important innovators in the history of jazz and was a major figure in the free jazz movement of the 1960s.
Coleman's most notable albums include The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959), Change of the Century (1960), This Is Our Music (1960), Free Jazz (1961), Ornette! (1961), Ornette on Tenor (1962), and Science Fiction (1972). Some of his standout songs include "Lonely Woman," "Turnaround," "Peace," and "The Blessing."
An interesting fact about Ornette Coleman is that he was the first jazz musician to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2007.
