Orson Welles (1915-1985) was an American actor, director, writer, and producer who is best known for his film Citizen Kane (1941). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for Citizen Kane and won the Academy Award for Best Writing Original Screenplay. He also directed, co-wrote and starred in the 1941 film The Magnificent Ambersons.
As a musician, Welles released two albums: The Orson Welles Story (1961) and Orson Welles Sings (1971). Standout songs from these albums include "If I Had a Hammer", "The Man Who Played God", and "My Little Baby".
An interesting fact about Orson Welles is that he was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union and was a vocal critic of the Vietnam War. He was also a heavy smoker, consuming up to four packs of cigarettes a day.
