P.J. Proby
P.J. Proby is an American singer, songwriter, and actor born in 1938 in Houston, Texas. He was an early proponent of the British Invasion, making a name for himself in England in the mid-1960s with a string of chart-topping hits. His most popular songs include “Hold Me,” “Somewhere,” “Together,” and “Niki Hoeky.” Proby is also known for his outrageous stage persona, often wearing costumes that are considered to be a bit too risqué for the era.
Proby’s most successful album was the 1965 release, P.J. Proby, which featured “Hold Me” and “Somewhere.” Other standout albums include It’s Me (1966), P.J. Proby in Town (1968), and I’m Yours (1969).
An interesting fact about Proby is that he was the first American artist to perform in the Soviet Union in the 1960s, playing a concert in Moscow in 1966.
