The band's original lineup consisted of guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, bassist Danny Thompson, vocalist Jacqui McShee, and drummer Terry Cox.

Their debut album, The Pentangle, was released in 1968 and was a critical and commercial success, reaching the top 10 on the UK Albums Chart. It is known for its standout tracks such as “Light Flight” and “Let No Man Steal Your Thyme”.

Their follow-up album, Sweet Child, was released in 1969 and featured the band's signature blend of folk and jazz influences. It was also a commercial success, reaching the top 20 on the UK Albums Chart. The album featured the classic tracks “Willy O’ Winsbury” and “The Time Has Come”.

The band's third album, Cruel Sister, was released in 1970 and featured the band's most popular single, “The House Carpenter”. The album also featured the classic tracks “Jack Orion” and “Nottamun Town”.

Pentangle's fourth album, Reflection, was released in 1971 and featured the band's most ambitious and successful work. The album featured the classic tracks “Hunting Song” and “Come Down in Time”.

An interesting fact about Pentangle is that they were the first act to perform at the famous Glastonbury Festival in 1970.
