Pharoah Sanders is an American jazz saxophonist and composer who has had an influential and groundbreaking career since the 1960s. He is best known for his explorations of free jazz and his spiritual, avant-garde compositions. His groundbreaking album Karma (1969) is considered a classic of the genre. Other notable albums by Sanders include Tauhid (1966), Jewels of Thought (1970), Izipho Zam (My Gifts) (1972), Black Unity (1971), and Thembi (1971). Sanders' most popular songs include "The Creator Has a Master Plan," "Astral Traveling," "Love is Everywhere," "Village of the Pharoahs," "Upper Egypt & Lower Egypt," and "You've Got to Have Freedom." An interesting fact about Pharoah Sanders is that he has had a long-standing collaboration with fellow jazz musician John Coltrane, who had a great influence on his career. He has also performed with the likes of Don Cherry, Alice Coltrane, and Leon Thomas.
