Piano Blues

Piano Blues is a style of blues music that developed in the early 20th century. It features a solo piano as the lead instrument and often employs a call-and-response pattern between the singer and the piano. It originated in the Deep South of the United States and was popularized by African-American musicians such as W.C. Handy, Cow Cow Davenport, and Pinetop Smith. Piano Blues was often played in small, informal juke joints or in the street, and often accompanied by other instruments such as the guitar or harmonica. It was heavily influenced by ragtime and boogie-woogie music, and has since evolved into many sub-genres such as barrelhouse blues, jazz-blues, and gospel-blues.
