  • Cameron offers us vivid portraits of outsiders looking at the world without illusion. Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles and Las Vegas and produced by Alex Cameron and Foxygen's Jonathan Rado, these songs seem unashamedly entertaining at first, the driving rhythm and infectious melodies permanently embellished by Roy Molloy's warm horn playing

    But the love songs and hymns to personal perseverance - for example, the song "Stranger's Kiss," Cameron's poignant duet with Angel Olsen (who also sings in the background on "Candy May"), or "Runnin' Outta Luck," co-written and co-sung by Brandon Flowers of The Killers - contain as much pure humanity as they do a clever sense of the impossible loneliness of the times

    The songs on Forced Witness are vivid and rich with details of lives lived. If there is darkness in these songs, it's not because taboos irritate, but because Cameron knows that confession has a redemptive power, and because people are usually at their most beautiful when their world has just collapsed.
