"For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life," says Olivia Rodrigo, of her sophomore release GUTS. "I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 — it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that's all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that."

In the wake of the enormous success of her debut album SOUR, the three-time Grammy Award-winner has some big shoes to fill. Smashes "drivers license," "good4u," and "traitor" pushed the young singer-songwriter from rising star status into outright pop phenomenon territory.

In 2021, SOUR was the most-streamed album globally on Spotify; additionally, moving more than 263,000 copies of the album on vinyl contributed to records outselling CDs in 2022 for the first time in more than three decades.

She expanded further about GUTS in a handwritten note posted to her social media channels, writing: "I made the bulk of this album during my 19th year on this Earth. 2 years that, for me, was filled with lots of confusion, mistakes, awkwardness & good old fashion teen angst."
