In 1967, the folk-pop group The Association had a huge hit with the song "Windy," which was penned by an unknown young woman named Ruthann Friedman. Two years later, she released her own album Constant Companion on Warner / Reprise Records, which didn't sound anything like "Windy" - it had more in common with her label mate Joni Mitchell or cult heroine Linda PerhacsDecades later, Ruthann was declared to "astral folk goddess" and touted by the likes of Devendra Banhart. Around that time, the reissue's producer, Pat Thomas, assembled a collection of previously unreleased demos, private recordings and lost songs from Ruthann's personal archives, including the original version of "Windy," written between 1965 and 1970Titled Hurried Life, Ruthann recently stated, "This is the song I really like - this was the first time I went back into the archives to find songs that could be re-released. I think those were representative of me."
