  • Just one year after Paul Butterfield had formed the blues band of the same name, thus creating the ultimate crew of white Chicago blues, the band put this dynamic and visionary album on their plate in 1965. For such a widely ramified network of relationships, as the band knits over several levels like the multi-musical title east/west, was new and innovative. While in the first numbers the traditional patterns still seem to be hidden in favour of independent form and rhythmic compression, they give way from now on to well planned instrumentation and extended solo interludes.

The superior emblem of the blues enriches the band with mind-expanding varieties and sounds, at the latest in Nat Adderley's "Work Song". Catapulted into the rock genre by Mike Bloomfield's exposed guitar artistry, all the players on this standard title, which is part of the jazz repertoire, celebrate their individual skills in perfectly coordinated teamwork. The title track "East-West" finally breaks the familiar paths of the blues. In the tonal mixture of sovereign prepared rocker household goods and borrowings of Indian music (raga rock), rock, blues, jazz and oriental melodies merge to an emotional, unheard and worth hearing sound.

This Speakers Corner production was made using analog master tape and mastering 100% pure analog. All licenses and GEMA contributions were paid. Recording: July 1966 at Chess Studios, Chicago (USA), by Jac Holzman
