Emmylou Harris weaves on this - originally released in 2000 - album traditional country of her kind in a simply ingenious way to a dreamlike, addictive more experimental sound carpet, which enchants and takes you to previously unattained unattained dimensions. Last but not least, the recording technique, which deviates from the usual recording technique, plays a decisive role. The titles literally float, sweep you along intoxicate the senses. The traditional Country does not push itself obtrusively into the Foreground and yet is there, underpinning the enchanting titles. What a long way from "Roses in the Snow" or "Elite Hotel" to "Red Dirt Girl"! But Emmylou Harris is the kind of artist (Bob Dylan and Neil Young come to mind) who always of artists (Bob Dylan and Neil Young come to mind) who always make exactly the music they want, and be it Album, but as artists they always stay true to themselves. And "Red Dirt Girl" is the work of a very mature artist. The title track refers to the reddish soil of Alabama, where she comes from, "Bang The Drum Slowly" is dedicated to her dead father to her dead father. The titles have sophisticated lyrics, the music is thoughtful thoughtful to melancholic. A beautiful duet with Dave Matthews is ("My Antonia").
