Richard & Linda Thompson
Richard & Linda Thompson were a British folk-rock duo that were active from 1972 to 1982. They first met in 1971 when Richard was a member of the influential folk-rock band Fairport Convention and Linda was a session singer. They released their first album together in 1972, I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight, which featured the song "Down Where the Drunkards Roll" and was a critical success.
The Thompsons released five studio albums together, all of which are considered influential to the folk-rock genre. Their most popular albums include Shoot Out the Lights (1982), a critically acclaimed album which was named the #29 greatest British album of all time by NME magazine, and Hokey Pokey (1975). Notable songs include "Wall of Death" (1982), "I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight" (1972), and "Dimming of the Day" (1975).
An interesting fact about Richard & Linda Thompson is that they were one of the first acts to have a music video featured on MTV when the station debuted in 1981. The video was for their song "Strange Affair".
