Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Vinyl Records
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) is one of the UK’s longest-running and most respected orchestras. Founded in 1840 by William Wallace, a local musician, the orchestra originally consisted of just 20 players. In the following years, the orchestra grew in size and achieved a nationwide reputation. In the 1950s, the RLPO was considered one of the world’s greatest symphony orchestras, with a string of critically acclaimed albums, including the first complete recording of Mahler’s ‘Das Lied von der Erde’.
The RLPO has recorded a number of standout albums, including their 2002 recording of Sir Edward Elgar’s ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ and their 2003 recording of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. The orchestra has also released a number of highly regarded singles, including the popular cover of ‘Moon River’ from their 2002 album, ‘Romantic Classics’.
An interesting fact about the RLPO is that it is the only symphony orchestra in the world to have a permanent, dedicated brass section. This section consists of four trumpets, three trombones, and two tubas, which provides the orchestra with a unique and powerful sound.
