Sarah Vaughan (1924-1990) was an American jazz singer, considered one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century. She is known for her rich, soulful contralto voice and improvisational skills, which earned her the nickname "Sassy." She began her career singing in church choirs and at local clubs, and in 1945, she was discovered by a talent scout.

Throughout her career, Vaughan released more than sixty albums, including some of her best-known works such as "Dreamy," "Vaughan and Violins," "Sarah Vaughan Sings George Gershwin," and "After Hours." Some of her most popular songs include "Misty," "Summertime," "Tenderly," and "Send in the Clowns."

An interesting fact about Sarah Vaughan is that she was the first African-American woman to win a Grammy Award, which she received in 1959 for her album "No Count Sarah."
