Scritti Politti is a British new wave and synth-pop band that formed in Leeds, England in 1977. The original line-up consisted of Green Gartside (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Nial Jinks (bass) and Tom Morley (drums). Their early sound was heavily influenced by punk rock and ska.
The band released their debut album, Songs to Remember, in 1982, which featured the singles "Absolute", "The Word Girl", and "Jacques Derrida". Their second album, Cupid & Psyche 85, released in 1985, featured the singles "The Perfect Way" and "Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)". The album was a major success and established the band as one of the premier new wave/synth-pop bands of the 1980s.
The band's third album, Provision, released in 1988, featured the singles "Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry for Loverboy)", "Boom! There She Was", and "Sweetest Girl". The album was a commercial success, and was certified gold in the UK.
Scritti Politti's fourth album, Anomie & Bonhomie, released in 1999, featured the singles "The Boom Boom Bap", "Snow in Sun", and "Asylums in Jerusalem". The album received critical acclaim, and was hailed as a return to form for the band.
The band's fifth and most recent album, White Bread Black Beer, was released in 2006 and featured the single "The Sweetest Goodbye". The album was well-received, and was praised for its blend of electronica, pop, and hip-hop.
