Sly & The Family Stone

Sly & The Family Stone is an American funk and soul group formed in 1967 in San Francisco, California. The group was composed of singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, and a rotating lineup of other musicians. Sly & The Family Stone's breakthrough album was their 1968 release Stand!, which became a huge critical and commercial success, and included some of their best-known songs such as "Everyday People", "Dance to the Music", "M'Lady" and "Sing a Simple Song". The album propelled the band to the height of their fame, and they followed it up with the even more successful album There's a Riot Goin' On, which included the hits "Family Affair" and "Runnin' Away".

The band's influence and impact on funk, soul, and psychedelic music has been hugely significant, and their work continues to be highly influential to this day. An interesting fact about the group is that Sly Stone was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a solo artist, and then again in 1997 as a member of Sly & The Family Stone.
