Soft Cell is a British synthpop duo formed in 1977 by Marc Almond and Dave Ball. Their breakthrough single, "Tainted Love," was an international success and topped the charts in numerous countries. The duo had a string of hits throughout the 1980s, most notably the albums Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret and The Art of Falling Apart.

Soft Cell's Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret (1981) is often cited as their best album and featured the hit singles "Tainted Love" and "Bedsitter." Other standout songs from the duo include "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye," "Torch," and "What!" The Art of Falling Apart (1983) was their second studio album and featured the hit single "Where Did Our Love Go?"

An interesting fact about Soft Cell is that the band had a musical influence on the goth movement of the 1980s. The band's visual aesthetic and lyrical themes were popularized by the goth scene and had a major impact on its development.
