In the summer of 1966, 18-year-old Laura Nyro auditioned with Milt Okun, one of the most respected music producers of the day, and Artie Mogull, a well-known A&R man. After meeting, these future legends of the music business were so excited that Mogull became her manager and Okun produced her debut album, More Than Just A Discovery. The first song she performed, "And When I Die," became the opening track on Peter, Paul, and Mary's hit album, The Peter, Paul, And Mary Album, and achieved even greater success with a cover of Blood, Sweat, & Tears that reached # 2 on the Billboard charts in 1969. A good song to start an audition with!
"Go Find The Moon: The Audition Tape" transports the listener to the early days of Nyro's legendary career. It was natural. It was organic. It was pure Laura Nyro. Now available for the first time, it includes "And When I Die" as well as songs she never officially released and versions of classics performed with Nyro's deft and distinctive touch.
