Besides her debut "Horses", Patti Smith's "Easter" (1978) is probably her most famous album. The disc produced by Jimmy Iovine contains a round dozen excellent interpretations of almost hypnotic charisma. Especially worth mentioning are the songs "Privilege (Set Me Free)" and "Rock N Roll Nigger" - not to forget the immortal Bruce Springsteen anthem "Because The Night", which Patti Smith performs in a revised lyrical version.ReviewsROLLING STONE ALBUM GUIDE ****1 / 2 "On 'Easter', producer Jimmy Iovine makes good on Smith's professed rebel stance by moving her sound even closer to solid, meat- and-potatoes mainstream rock. ...Maybe Bruce Spring- steen did Smith a big favour on their hit songwriting collaboration from this album, finally rendering her skittery energy accessible. But another way of hearing "Because the Night" suggests that this so-called punk priestess breathes a much-needed air of subtlety into the Boss's lofty anthemic construct."
