Sturgill Simpson
Sturgill Simpson is an American singer-songwriter and musician from Jackson, Kentucky. He is best known for his Grammy-nominated, critically acclaimed albums such as A Sailor's Guide to Earth (2016), Metamodern Sounds in Country Music (2014), and High Top Mountain (2013). He is also well-known for his songwriting collaborations with the likes of Zac Brown, John Prine, and Jason Isbell.
Sturgill Simpson began his music career in the late 2000s with a series of independently released EPs and albums. He released his first full-length album, High Top Mountain, in 2013 and it quickly gained critical acclaim for its blend of traditional country, bluegrass, and alternative rock influences.
In 2016, Simpson released A Sailor's Guide to Earth, a concept album that earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album. The album's lead single, "Brace for Impact (Live a Little)", earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song.
In addition to his solo work, Simpson has collaborated with a number of notable musicians. He has written songs with Zac Brown Band, John Prine, and Jason Isbell, and performed with The Allman Brothers Band, The Who, and Billy Joe Shaver.
