Deadwing was Porcupine Tree's eighth studio album, first released in 2005 after their breakthrough In Absentia. It was the second in a string of three albums that many consider the pinnacle of the band's artistic achievements. It also tied in with the band's new commercial success, becoming the band's best-selling album of the period.Based on a screenplay written by Steven Wilson and director Mike Bennion, about half of the songs were started as part of the film's score. However, when the film did not go into production, Wilson instead made them the basis for the next PT album, with additional material written in collaboration with the other band members.
