Technical Death Metal
Technical Death Metal is a subgenre of extreme metal which combines elements of death metal with highly technical instrumental proficiency. It was developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s by bands such as Death, Atheist, Cynic, Gorguts, Pestilence, and Demilich. Technical Death Metal features intricate compositions with complex rhythms and patterns, combined with a distorted and often dissonant guitar sound. Vocals are usually harsh and guttural, often including growls and shrieks. The lyrics are often focused on dark themes such as death, suffering, and the afterlife. Technical Death Metal is sometimes referred to as "progressive death metal" due to its often complex and progressive structures.
