The Dutch Swing College Band

The Dutch Swing College Band (DSCB) is a traditional jazz band founded in 1945 by bandleader, clarinetist and saxophonist Peter Schilperoort. The band was formed as an answer to the rising popularity of swing music in The Netherlands during the 1940s. The band initially included three clarinets, two trumpets, two trombones, a banjo, a tuba, drums and a piano. The band has had numerous line-up changes over the years, but has maintained its classic Dixieland sound.

The DSCB's most successful and well-known album is the 1956 album Dutch Swing College at the Sportpalast Berlin. This album was recorded in front of a live audience in Berlin and features some of the band's most popular songs, including "Royal Garden Blues" and "Tiger Rag". Other standout albums include Live at the North Sea Jazz Festival (1975) and A Swingin' Affair (1984).

The DSCB has performed in all major jazz festivals around the world and has collaborated with many famous jazz musicians, such as Louis Armstrong and Chet Baker. The band has been awarded several prestigious music awards, including the Edison Award in 1977 and the Golden Harp Award in 2004.

An interesting fact about the DSCB is that the band has been active for more than 70 years, making it one of the longest running jazz bands in the world.
