The La De Das Vinyl Records
The La De Das were a pioneering New Zealand rock group from the 1960s, who achieved international success in the 1970s. Formed in 1963 in Auckland, New Zealand, the band initially consisted of Bruce Howard on drums, Trevor Wilson on bass and lead vocal, and Robert Gillies on guitar and lead vocal. The La De Das are considered one of the most influential bands in the New Zealand music scene, and their early work was heavily influenced by the emerging British Invasion sound.
The La De Das released their debut single, "How Is the Air Up There" in 1964, which was an immediate success in New Zealand and Australia. This was followed by a string of hits in the mid-1960s, including "Gonna See My Baby Tonight" and "I Can Make it with You". The band released their first album, "Here We Go Again" in 1967, which featured their hit single "Gonna See My Baby Tonight".
The La De Das released their most successful album, "The Happy Prince" in 1972, which included the singles "The Giggle Eyed Goo" and "Tell Me". This album was a major success in New Zealand and Australia, and led to the band's first overseas tour in 1973.
The La De Das continued to record and tour throughout the 1970s, releasing two further albums, "Golden Miles" and "The La De Das" in 1975 and 1977 respectively. They disbanded in 1978, but reunited in the 1990s for a series of reunion tours.
The La De Das are considered to be one of the most influential bands in the New Zealand music scene, and their work has been highly influential on subsequent generations of New Zealand rock musicians.
Interesting fact: The La De Das are the first New Zealand band to ever appear on the British pop charts, with their single "Gonna See My Baby Tonight" reaching #29 in 1967.
