The National is an American rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. Formed in 1999, the band consists of Matt Berninger (vocals), Aaron Dessner (guitar, bass, keyboards), Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums).

The National's breakthrough album was Alligator (2005), which was met with critical acclaim and spawned popular songs such as "Mr. November" and "Abel". This was followed by Boxer (2007) and High Violet (2010), both of which received even greater acclaim and further established the band's reputation as one of the best indie rock bands of the decade. Their most recent album, Sleep Well Beast (2017), was also a critical success, earning them their first Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.
