The Poll Winners Vinyl Records

The Poll Winners were an influential jazz trio formed in Los Angeles, California in 1956. It featured two of the most important jazz guitarists of the era, Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis. The trio also included bassist Ray Brown, who had previously worked with Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald. The Poll Winners' most successful album was the 1956 release, "The Poll Winners," which featured a variety of jazz standards as well as original compositions by Kessel and Ellis. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance. Other standout albums include "The Poll Winners Ride Again" (1959) and "The Poll Winners Three" (1961). Notable songs include "Honeysuckle Rose," "Caravan," "A Night in Tunisia," and "September in the Rain." The trio's instrumental versions of these songs have become jazz standards. An interesting fact about The Poll Winners is that their name was derived from a contest in which jazz fans voted for their favorite jazz musicians. The Poll Winners' popularity was such that the contest was eventually discontinued due to the trio's dominance.
