Tony Allen is a Nigerian musician, singer, songwriter, and producer who is best known as the co-founder of the Afrobeat music movement. He has been active in the music industry since the 1960s, when he joined Fela Kuti's band Koola Lobitos. He went on to become the primary drummer and musical director for Fela Kuti's band Africa 70, where he developed the Afrobeat genre. Allen's standout albums include No Accommodation for Lagos (1976), Jealousy (1980), No Discrimination (1983), and Secret Agent (1984).
Some of Allen's most popular songs include "Expensive Shit" (1975), "No Accommodation for Lagos" (1976), "Jeun K'oku" (1977), "Mr. Big Thief" (1979), "Just Like That" (1983), and "N.E.P.A." (1985).
An interesting fact about Tony Allen is that he was awarded the prestigious Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2012 for his contributions to African music.
