Twist
Twist is a style of music and dance that emerged in the late 1950s in the United States. It was derived from the 1950s rock and roll sound and incorporated elements of jazz, blues, and rhythm and blues. It is based on a simple 12-bar blues structure with a repetitive, syncopated beat and simple chord progressions. The style became popular as a dance craze in the early 1960s and was popularized by recording artists such as Chubby Checker, who released a cover of Hank Ballard’s “The Twist” in 1960. The Twist has remained popular over the years and continues to be a popular dance in the 21st century.
